SDRCrew 2.0 is out

SDRCrew 2.0

It's here: SDRCrew 2.0 is available. It's the biggest overhaul since the program was born: a new interface, new tabs, a separate window for the digital modes, and three decoders (SSTV, RDS and DAB) that I rebuilt or improved by measuring them against real signals.

NEW INTERFACE

  • Side menu with search and categories (Reception, Aviation & maritime, Data & digital, Music & broadcasting), each collapsible with an arrow.
  • Large orange frequency readout and S-meter at the top of every receiving tab.
  • The cards on the right (Source, Memories, IQ recording...) start closed and the app remembers how you leave them.
  • Dark, light or "follow Windows" theme, switched instantly.
  • If a receiver is busy, the app asks whether to stop the other reception instead of throwing an error.
  • The Info tab has a form to send me bug reports and requests, anonymously if you like.

WHAT'S NEW

  • Citizen Band: 40 CEPT channels, bands A-F, alpha channels, 1/5/10 kHz steps, AM/FM/SSB, S-meter and scanning.
  • DMR / D-STAR / C4FM: repeater list by country, Memories and a heard-stations history that survives closing the app.
  • Shared Memories on SDR, KiwiSDR and the other tabs.
  • ACARS and VDL2: an Aircraft card with registration, operator, model and photo.
  • TETRA: SDS messages (TETRA's "SMS").
  • DAB: favourite stations with a star, search by name, multiplex or channel.

DIGITAL MODES IN A SEPARATE WINDOW

FT8, FT4, FT2, WSPR, JS8 and SSTV open in their own window, from the SDR tab and from the KiwiSDR tab. Every decoded message is written to a monthly CSV file by itself and the statistics are rebuilt from the log, so they are never lost. There is also a GridTracker-style map of the stations heard, and a country flag in front of every country name.

SSTV

Much more sensitive, it starts even without a VIS header, and a burst of interference or a fade of up to 30 seconds no longer splits the picture. Received pictures are cleaned up automatically (noise, ruined lines, colour, sharpness) and the untouched original is kept in a separate folder.

RDS

Rebuilt decoder: it locks the 57 kHz subcarrier by itself, so mono stations work too. On a real station it decodes 97% of the blocks against 12% before, with the full name and RadioText.

DAB

"Auto" gain is now a software gain control on the signal level, because the tuner's own AGC does not work with DAB. The scan finds weak multiplexes it used to miss, including the Rai multiplex next to a very strong neighbour: on my dongle 10 multiplexes instead of 5-7, in about 4.5-5 minutes.
